Credit Control/Finance Assistant

£23,000 - £27,000

10 -11 month contract

This is a full time contract role covering maternity for a busy, well-established company. You will be reporting to the Finance Manager and responsible for the credit control function, as well as providing assistance to the Finance Manager and Purchase Ledger team. Credit control is about 70% of the role.

Duties and responsibilities:

Credit control (70% of the role)

  • Uploading customer invoices into Sage
  • Credit control - chasing outstanding payments
  • Processing credit notes
  • Approving customer credit limits
  • Debtor reconciliation
  • Posting and allocating customer receipts to Sage
  • Handling customer invoice queries

Other duties include:

  • Petty cash management and reconciliation
  • Intercompany postings and reconciliations
  • Assisting purchase ledger controller with additional workload
  • Checking daily funds received

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a credit control function, as well as the ability to train in other areas of accounts.

    You’ll be tasked with ensuring that customer mortgage applications are underwritten efficiently in line with company quality standards.

    Day to Day: Mon-Fri 9am-5:30pm

    • Understand and evaluate the risks associated with every application 
    • Obtain all necessary documentation to make accurate and appropriate lending decisions
    • Manually underwrite applications efficiently and effectively
    • Liaise in a professional manner with third parties regarding applications
    • Manage own caseload and underwrite cases in accordance with company policy
    • Keep up to date with and apply current regulatory, legal and compliance practices
    • Continually look at ways to improve underwriting processes and procedures within the company.

    Previous Experience:

    You will have experience in underwriting mortgages, ideally holding a mandate although this is not essential. You will also have a good understanding of FCA regulatory obligations.
